Waitrose has announced it is to launch its first-ever loyalty scheme in an effort to boost customer retention.
The new Waitrose Food Club scheme comes on the back of successful reward card schemes offered by rivals Tesco and Sainsburys for several years.
The supermarkets first loyalty club format will be led by the retailers managing director Mark Price, who is known for personally communicating with shoppers via his online blog.
Last week Price announced that Waitrose will offer its customers more promotions and larger discounts in response to the "challenging" economic climate.
Waitrose recently reported a 4.1 per cent increase in like-for-like sales over the Christmas and New Year period despite the difficult trading environment.
