Waitrose has been voted Britains favourite high street shop for the second year in a row by consumer group Which?
The supermarket received a score of 84 points in a survey of more than 14,000 Which? Members, which rated 96 of the UKs major high street stores on customer service, price, products and experience.
Sister company John Lewis came second in the annual poll with a total score of 78 and also received top marks in every sector of the survey it appeared in. Despite higher prices, both shops were praised for their pleasant store environment, helpful staff and quality products.
Discounter grocers Aldi and Lidl also made it into the top ten, in seventh and eighth place respectively, and ahead of the likes of Tesco and Sainsburys .
More Which? members said they were shopping at discount supermarkets now compared to twelve month ago.
Martyn Hocking, editor of Which? magazine commented: "While slashing prices might get customers through the door, we know that shoppers value those stores that make shopping a pleasurable experience those that offer quality products, have helpful staff and go the extra mile to give their customers a personal service."
