Tesco Reveal Plans For Online Fashion Store

Tesco is to launch an own-brand fashion website this autumn in a bid to boost its presence in the fast-growing online fashion market.
The new site will offer customers thousands of Tesco own-brand items from its Florence and Fred, Elspeth Gibson and Cherokee clothing lines, as well as the new My Favourite Things range.
The clothing store is expected to be operational in time for the launch of this year’s autumn collection and will be accessible through the Tesco.com website.
Richard Brasher, commercial director at Tesco, said the new site will be significantly different in look and feel to what customers currently use online.
He explained: “Our in-store clothing ranges have been popular in the shops where we sell them – so we’ve been looking at how we can bring the fashion ranges to more customers, whether they live near a large store or not.”
Britain’s largest retailer has identified the success of online fashion company Asos as a way of expanding its non-food offering. Asos.com recently reported a 118 per cent increase in year-on-year sales in the nine weeks to 16 January, despite the economic downturn.
Online clothing sales rose 32 per cent in December year-on-year, beating a 14 per cent rise in all online retail sales and far exceeding growth in high street fashion chains.
Industry analysts believe the online fashion sector will represent 13 per cent of the total clothing market and be worth a staggering £6bn by 2016.
