Morrisons Slashes Cost Of 4,000 Items

Morrisons has intensified the on-going supermarket price war by cutting the prices of 4,000 products.

The supermarket chain said the latest price cuts could save ten million shoppers up to £40 a week, with reductions being made on a wide range of lines including fresh produce, groceries and household products.

Thorntons Premium Collection chocolates, a bottle of Sandpiper wine and a British Shoulder of Pork are just some of the items that have been slashed in half, to £5, £4 and £2.45 respectively.

Morrisons group marketing and communications director, Angus Maciver said: "We know that times are tough for everyone, so we're working even harder to ensure people can keep some extra money in their pockets."

"Even in these tough times we want our customers to be able to fill their trolleys and save money right across the weekly shop ."

Rivals Tesco and Asda reduced prices on 3,000 and 1,000 items respectively last month in a further attempt to beat competitors for value and lure more cash-strapped consumers.

Morrisons posted the largest sales growth of all the grocers over the Christmas period, with like-for-like sales, excluding fuel, up 8.2 per cent during the six weeks to 4 January.
