Asda is set to scrap its buy-one-get-one-free deals, know as Bogofs, this weekend in favour of more price cuts on every day essentials.
The UKs second largest supermarket has already slashed 7500 prices since 1st January, and is now preparing to reduce the price of a further 5,000 lines this weekend as it increases its efforts to attract shoppers affected by the economic downturn.
Asda said its new price pledge signals the end of Bogof deals and any offers or promotions that are not substantiated by a price.
Asdas chief executive, Andy Bond said: "We're determined to put our customers at the heart of everything we do and that's why we're continuing to make price cuts where they count."
"We're engaging with our customers in a transparent way to ensure the products we sell and the prices we charge meet their needs in these difficult times."
Darren Blackhurst, Asdas chief merchandising officer added: "With the country in recession, we need to do all we can to lower the cost of the weekly food shop and do the right thing by our customers."
"That's what our price pledge is all about, good honest value our customers can trust week in, week out."
Mr Blackhurst revealed last week that he had reduced the number of product lines Asda stocks to cut costs and therefore enable it to reduce prices.
