Tesco has trigged an online sales war by slashing prices before Christmas .
The supermarket giant has launched its online sale with offers on home ware, furniture, and sports products and price cuts on electrical items to follow on Christmas Eve.
Tesco said more than 250,000 people logged on to its Tesco Direct website last Christmas Day and it expects many more to do so this year, with shoppers being offered price cuts of up to 50 per cent.
Richard Brasher, Tesco's commercial and trading director, said: "We will be offering some amazing bargains online today on furniture, home ware and sports goods ."
"Customers will save 50 per cent on some lines and will be able to snap up a Denby dinner set for as little as £34.25."
"Watch this space for our second wave of sale lines which will go live on Tesco Direct on Christmas Eve ready for the millions of customers we expect to log on to the site on Christmas Day."
The UKs largest retailer revealed all Tesco Extra and Homeplus stores will be open on Boxing Day, as well as all 950 Express stores, 55 Superstores and eight Metro stores.
