Tesco Cautioned Over Out Of Date Foods

Tesco has been cautioned for selling a range of out of date foods at one of its stores in North Wales .
The supermarket giant was taken to court after a routine inspection at the Llandudno Junction store by Environmental Health officers in December discovered 24 products past their “use by date” on sale, with one found to be 12 days past its expiry date.
The products included 13 jars of Tesco free-range egg mayonnaise, six sausage and bacon breakfast baps, one organic mozzarella ball, one minced beef and onion pie and one macaroni cheese.
However, a food safety expert told magistrates at Llandudno that the old products wouldn’t have caused any harm if consumed.
Prosecutor Stuart Dunn said Tesco had a “first class” system for dealing with the issue but there were some problems at the Llandudno Junction store for a short time.
“At a routine visit in December 2007 a number of products were found to be past their use-by dates,” said a spokeswoman for the Conwy council .
“Following careful consideration Conwy’s food safety unit decided to issue Tesco with a formal caution. Tesco will also pay the council’s costs,” she added.
