Waitrose is set to open its first store in the Middle East later this week, when the new Dubai Mall shopping complex opens to the public on 31 October.
The 55,300 sq ft outlet will become the biggest supermarket in the Downtown Burj Dubai development development and will offer local residents a range of Waitrose branded goods along with locally-sourced products .
The product range will include fresh and frozen foods, cheese, fresh fish, delicatessen, meat, patisserie, hot food counters and a market-style fresh fruit and vegetable area. A number of non-food John Lewis items will also be available to customers at the Dubai store .
Waitrose confirmed that another retail outlet is currently under construction and will open for business in the Dubai Marina Mall later this year.
The move comes as John Lewis revealed a drop in UK revenues for the fifth week in a row, this time falling by 7.6 per cent.
But the company said trade has risen by 0.5 per cent, as customers look to purchase more "comfort" food .
Ed Garner, director of market research company TNS, recently warned that Waitrose is "under pressure" following the news that till growth at the supermarket chain increased by 1.6 per cent in the 12 weeks to 5 October.
