Asda has launched a new interactive games website aimed at educating schoolchildren bout health and nutrition .
The website was officially launched this week by Ed Balls, secretary of state for children, schools and families, with approval from the Food Standards Agency (FSA), despite still being under development.
Asdas new online tool is aimed at 5- to 14-year-olds, is in with the national curriculum, and features content from nutritionists and teachers, using animation and interactive games to teach children about health and nutrition.
Two Food Safety and Hygiene' and 'Diet and Health' sections of the site went live this week and will soon be joined by another two areas Food Preparation and Farm to Fork.
"Through regular communication with teachers and parents it became obvious that there was a lack of topical, relevant and trustworthy health information out there," explained Asdas brand manager Natalie Cunningham.
"We have created a completely free, one-stop-shop for adults and kids, supporting the national curriculum, while raising the profile of health ."
The interactive site has been developed by Leeds-based digital agency MadeByPito and features a specifically created animated online family called The Binks.
The sites animations and characters were successfully tested by a school in Huddersfield, generating positive feedback.
