Asda To Launch Health-Awareness Programme For Staff

Asda has announced it is to launch a three-week health programme that will provide its employees with health and fitness advice, health checks and healthy food options.
Starting on 9 June at all of Asda’s 329 nationwide stores, the health awareness programme will introduce members of staff to healthier snacks and meals made available through staff canteens and vending machines .
Employees will also be encouraged to get into shape by exercising, and will be given the opportunity to participate in a range of physical activities, including Asda’s ‘swimathon’ and a cycling competition.
Other staff health promotions will include diet plans and advice on how to stay fit, free fruit, and the chance to have blood pressure checks and diabetes tests carried out at Asda pharmacies .
Commenting on the health programme, Sam Smith, colleague relations team leader at Asda, said: “What we’re trying to do is raise awareness and give staff better choices within the store, but we don’t want to force people into a healthy lifestyle if they don’t want to do that.”
“People are with us for eight-to-nine hours a day so it’s important that we should try and educate them where we can.”
