Sainsbury's is set to abandon its specialist wine ordering service sainsburywine.co.uk.
The supermarket chain said in a statement that it had taken the decision to shutdown the site, which offers specialist wines and champagnes by the case, following a review of the service .
But the retailer added that it would continue to offer "a full range of wines and champagnes" on its "online grocery website ".
"The vast majority of our online customers purchase wine and champagne, either by the bottle or by the case, from our grocery website," Sainsburys said.
The statement added that it had been increasing the number of specialist wines in its core range in-store and on the grocery website "to offer customers a full choice".
Customers have until 31 July 2008 to place their wine orders .
