Sainsbury's slammed by Jamie Oliver

A documentary series being filmed by Jamie Oliver will show the effects of factory farming in particular battery farmed eggs .

Oliver, who advertises Sainsbury 's products said he was really disappointed when no representatives from Sainsbury's turned up for a debate about factory farmed eggs and chickens. Other no shows were reps from Tesco, Asda and Morrison .

The TV chef said, "It is shocking that the people I work for didn't turn up on the day. I don't know why.

"The fact that your PR department hasn't even got the confidence to turn up and talk about what you do for the millions of people who come through your doors each week. Of course the supermarkets should have turned up. How dare they not? I was really upset."

The debate is part of a new series, Jamie's Fowl Dinners which starts on Friday. In the programme he reveals that some farmers are paid as little as 2p per chicken from the likes of Sainsbury's. In the programme Jamie's Fowl Dinners, to be aired on Friday, Oliver reveals that some farmers are only paid 2p per chicken from supermarkets like Sainsbury's.

The programme will also show how chickens are slaughtered to educate the public about such practices.
