Supermarket chain Morrisons has recalled its fresh Scottish salmon because of fears that it may have been contaminated with white spirit.
The retailer was forced to issue the recall on nearly 30 Scottish salmon products in all, with the exception of organic produce, following customer complaints.
The affected salmon and smoked salmon products, pulled from Morrisons fresh fish counters and pre-packed chillers, include use-by dates of February 10 to 13 inclusive.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has said the white spirit taint gives the fish an unpleasant taste, although consumer safety was not thought to be at risk.
Morrisons has removed all affected products from sale and placed product recall notices in the national press, which state that the salmon is being pulled as a precautionary measure due to the potential risk of white spirit taint.
The grocer is advising all customers who have bought the products not to eat them and return them to stores for a full refund .
