Sainsbury’s has been slammed by a leading consumer watchdog for using two many bags when packing customer’s online grocery deliveries .
A shopping survey carried out by trade magazine The Grocer found the supermarket giant used 14 bags to pack 29 items in a grocery delivery - just two items per bag .
The magazine described the number of bags used by Sainsburys for its online orders as 'shocking' given the fact that the retailer, along with all supermarket chains, claim to be reducing waste and increasing their efforts in going green .
The survey, which tested the online services of each of the leading online retailers, found that while Asda, Ocado, Tesco and Waitrose performed well, Sainsbury’s disappointed for its ‘2 item per bag’ rule, high delivery charge and for having the worst product availability of the five.
In comparison, The Grocer revealed that Tesco used just two bags for its online order, while Waitrose used eight, Asda used ten and Ocado nine.
The publication added that all the "good work" Sainsbury's had been praised for in its last survey, which included cutting the number of bags it used in half has now been "undone".
