Waitrose Confirms Deal To Acquire Budgens Store

Waitrose has completed its acquisition of a grocery store in Buckingham.

The upmarket retailer announced confirmation of the deal to take over the Budgens store earlier in the week.

Work is now underway to transform the 10,000sq ft shop into a Waitrose outlet in time for its planned opening this summer.

Waitrose also confirmed that all 28 Budgens employees will be offered the opportunity to become partners in the business, enabling them to voice their opinion in how the business is run and being entitled to an annual profits share scheme .

"Today’s announcement is further evidence of our ambition to grow the business and also responds to numerous requests for a Waitrose branch in Buckingham," said Nigel Keen, Waitrose Director of Development.

"We look forward to welcoming the employees at the store into the business over the coming months and sharing with them the unique benefits of the John Lewis Partnership."

Keen added: "We are delighted to have the opportunity to bring our quality food offer and high standards of customer service to Buckingham and look forward to becoming as much a part of the local community as any traditional high street business ."

The new Waitrose store will offer shoppers a wide range of fresh foods and groceries, along with meat, fish and cheese counters and a bakery and delicatessen.
