Tesco To Launch Higher Education Qualification

Tesco is reportedly set to offer a degree course in retail management in a move aimed at changing the perception of those wanting to go to university of the retail industry.

According to reports in The Times, the supermarket giant will launch The Tesco Foundation Degree (Arts) later this month.

The two-year qualification in retail management will include classes on the art of display design, special offers and efficient shelf-stacking.

Derek Longhurst, director of Foundation Degree Forward, which is promoting the qualifications, said: "Retail has had an image of attracting people who are not much interested in going to university. This is one way we can change that perception."

Tesco hopes that the two-year degree course will eventually be recognised as the national qualification for store managers .

The course has been designed in conjunction with Manchester Metropolitan University, the London University of the Arts and private sector consultancies .

The majority of the course will be taught at work and online, although some classes will be held at university .
