Supermarket chain Sainsburys has announced plans to launch a range of own-brand milk that contains just 1 per cent fat .
The retailer said the move is aimed at supplying customers with a healthier alternative to the usual full fat, semi skimmed or skimmed varieties and follows the growing popularity of 1 per cent milk among shoppers in the US and Canada .
The grocer added it has worked hard to ensure the 1 per cent milk retains the creamy flavour of its semi-skimmed alternative.
Sainsbury's nutritionist Charlotte Parker said: "Our challenge is to educate consumers about the advantages of drinking 1per cent milk as part of their efforts to reduce fat and saturated fat in their diets ."
The ultra low-fat milk is expected to go on sale in Sainsbury’s stores nationwide later this month.
