Supermarket chain Sainsburys has introduced a Top 10 display in its wine aisles in an effort to help boost sales .
The new display, set to appear in 378 stores nationwide by the end of April, will launch with the theme of "new wines" for the first six weeks, followed by "buyers’ favourites".
The display will also provide consumer information, food matching ideas and endorsements to aid shoppers on wine purchases as much as possible.
Sainsbury’s wine team member, Warren Anderson, said the Top 10 wines section was designed to boost customers’ confidence in trying "something new".
"We hope to assist shoppers to broaden their knowledge and become a little more experimental when they choose wine," he commented.
According to Mr Anderson, Sainsbury’s turned to the book and DVD retail sectors in a bid to come up with new ideas on how to sell more wine in its stores .
Retailers such as Waterstones and Blockbuster were researched for the way they helped consumers to make the "right personal selection when confronted by enormous and varied choice", he added.
