Supermarket giant Asda last week celebrated being chosen as Britians 'Environmentally Friendly Retailer' for 2007.
Already established as the UKs second largest supermarket chain, the Wal-Mart owned retailer scooped the award at this years prestigious People in Retail Awards, held in London last week (3rd October 2007).
The prestigious environmental accolade meant a double awards success for the supermarket in just one week, following the companys recognition as 'Multiple Environmental Retailer of the Year' at the Retail Industry Awards the previous week.
Judges gave Asda the thumbs up for its common sense approach and commitment to the environment, resulting in the retailer beating off strong competition from the likes of B&Q, Dixons and Tesco .
The award winning entry also impressed with its highly successful community and colleague based initiatives, including its 'Get Involved' project and Green Diary for colleagues, as well as its commitment to reducing waste, eliminating packaging and saving energy .
Asda chief executive Andy Bond said: "To win two awards in just one week is a tremendous result. They are certainly a testament to our hard work and innovation ."
