Tesco To Cut 400 Jobs At Distribution Centre

Supermarket giant Tesco is to axe up to 400 jobs at a distribution centre in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire .

Following a review of its network, the supermarket giant announced yesterday that it plans to shut down its automated picking operation at Fenny Lock, in Milton Keynes, which employs over 1,500 people.

Shocked staff members were informed by the retailer throughout Monday.

A company spokesman commented, "We have to regularly review our distribution network to ensure we can deliver the very best service to both stores and customers ."

"Consequently we no longer plan to operate the automated picking operation in Fenny Lock. Subject to consultation with trade unions, the trunking operation will close by the end of September."

The company said it would try to find the sacked workers alternative roles at other Tesco sites and stores, or be offered redundancy packages .

"We will support all affected staff through the difficult period ahead and will do as much as possible to find them an alternative role in Tesco," added the spokesman for the UK’s largest supermarket.

"We will also be working with local job agencies and employers to identify other opportunities ."
