This summer could see empty shelves in Asda stores due to possible strike action.
The strike could affect Asdas distribution centres which would affect supplies to its UK stores.
Employees of the supermarket chain have agreed to industrial action over a pay row. The walk-out is being organised by the GMB union and it may be timed to cause maximum disruption during the World Cup, especially the England games.
40 per cent of Asda employees are members of the GMB union.
Meetings are being held in Manchester by union executives to plan the action.
Asda owned by Wal-Mart had said they would bring in agency staff in place of the striking workforce.
David Smith Asdas people director said they would do whatever they could within the law to ensure that shoppers are not affected.
However the GMB said they may consider taking legal action against agencies who provide staff to Asda.
